BIO

Shanna Whan is a recovered alcoholic and a five-year-long volunteer who has now become a national media personality and a rural spokeswoman influencing policy and changing how we treat and address alcohol-related health issues in remote areas. The NSW/ACT AgriFutures Rural Woman of the Year finalist from 2018 is today the CEO and founder of national charity Sober in the Country Ltd and she is realising her vision to break ''wide open'' the truth about our casual alcoholism culture. The former corporate ag employee turned nationally recognised freelance photographer has an extensive background in PR, communications, journalism, and public speaking.

LONGER BIO

In 2016 after two years rebuilding her life from 'absolute ground zero' Shanna Whan decided to risk it all over again when she took a painful personal story and her own lived-experience as an ''invisible'' (high-functioning) alcoholic from the bush to go public with the aim of nothing more than helping others to know they were not alone.

After five years that charity work which began as sitting with other alcoholics over coffee, and simply blogging and speaking the truth' blossomed and grew and is now recognised nationally as an innovative approach to not just addictions in the often-overlooked professional sector; but also as a kind of ''regenerative'' angle on how we treat our people.

Shanna believes in the common-sense philosophy that for rural Australia to stay viable, we must work on our people in the same way we are working on regenerative agriculture and focusing on economic sustainability.

A NOTE FOR ANY AND ALL PRINT, PRESS , RADIO PRODUCERS, TV PRODUCERS, JOURNALISTS:

Shanna is media savvy and fully experienced and comfortable on air, on stage live, on panels, and as an MC etc.

She is more than happy to discuss SITC and her story - however final approval must be given by Shanna Whan and Sober in the Country Ltd before words or film appear or go live to print, press, air, social media.  Due to the incredibly sensitive nature of the topic, SITC is non-negotiable on ensuring full checks are in place and that ethical balance and proper representation are clearly outlined whether it's around SITC as a brand, Shanna Whan as an individual, any of the Directors, and for any of the members within the SITC tribe.
